Beginners Guide to Budget Travel and Hostels

This is my first post and i would enjoy to compose a few words regarding hostels. Hostels are a magnificent style to travel the world on a low budget. From the cheapest to the more grand there is something to accommodate every preference and plan. The cool thing regarding backpacker hostels is that tons of college students flock to them as they are cheap and fun so there is all the time lots of student travelers around to get-together with!

Sapporo Japan

Just got settled into the Hotel in Shin Sapporo, a newer area of the city. Instead of a $120 cab ride from Chitose Airport, I decided to try and decipher the JR Rail ticket machine. I caught a train from the ground floor of the airport to less than a block from my hotel for ~$8.50.

My Japanese is really rusty, and I only know some basic "grade-school" level Kanji right now. So each time I figure something out I feel like I'm cracking the Enigma Code or something. It feels… Continue

Gourmet delights in Cebu

Treat your senses to an eclectic mix of gourmet Filipino dishes, hand-made ethnic accessories, native delicacies and colorful knickknacks. Which is what you’ll get from this restaurant-cum-boutique-cum-deli. Abaseria Deli and Cafe incorporates the materials and scraps that are used in jewelry-making to create a delightful blend of ethnic artistry and playful creativity. Nowhere else but in Abaseria can you… Continue

Toilet bowl restaurant in Tapei

Modern Toilet is a Taipei restaurant. It accommodates 100 seats with

each made from toilet bowls. The specialties at the restaurant accompany

sink faucets and gender-coded 'WC' signs that appear on the three-story

structure. The food is served in mini plastic toilet bowls. The toilet rolls

that serve for wiping hand and mouth are hung above the tables, which

resemble glass-topped jumbo bath & washtubs.

For travel to Asia from US I consistently find the best fares on http://bt-store.com/, and also on http://eservice.evaair.com/online/html/english/plan/eibsa005.asp. A Seattle based company that has good rates also is http://www.justfares.com/

I've probably said this before, but Kyoto is my favorite city in the East. It's a comfortable size, (about twice the size of Boston), and has a great blend of the modern and the historic. Kyoto University has a great technology school, and…

I used to go to a bar in Bruxelles called "Le Cercueil" or "The Coffin" where you drink off coffins and out of skulls. Very weird and creepy, and apparently still there:…

Eric, that's too much. LOL Great picture too. I once went to a club in Surinam (I think it was called "Rendezvous") which featured DC-8 Airplane seats. The story was that they salvaged them from a Surinam Airways that missed the…
